Cox Mowers started over 60 years ago when engineer and founder Owen Cox realised that push mowers did not suit big Australian properties, leading to the design of the first Australian made ride-on lawn mower – the Cox Mow Mobile. Since then, the company has been manufacturing products that exceed their customer’s needs and expectations and that over the past six decades have become household names.

According to Sean Dennis, an SER® representative, the main products supplied to Cox Mowers are Hot Rolled Carbon HA1010 steel – formerly known as BLACKFORM® steel as well as Hot Rolled Formable BRIGHTFORM® steel used in the manufacture of their tough and rugged lawn mowers as well as their range of chippers known as SuperChippers.

“Cox Mowers buy their steel sheet from BlueScope Sheet Metal Supplies for a number of reasons – the unmatchable quality, excellent technical support and of course, for the fact that our steel, just like their mowers, is Australian-made. We slit the BRIGHTFORM® steel coil to width and then shear the sheets to length, which provides Cox Mowers the perfectly-sized steel sheet for their metal press that allows them to deep form their mower cutter decks.”

Terry O’Sullivan, Cox Mowers Logistics and Production Manager said the two companies are on the same page when it comes to manufacturing in Australia. “We’ve been in partnership for over 10 years now, and our relationship is based on mutual respect and a strong appreciation of the importance of quality.”

“We’ve just finished their SER® and found that we could assist them in a number of ways including helping them with recycling their steel waste and introducing ZINCANNEAL® zinc-iron alloy coated steel as a replacement for the uncoated BRIGHTFORM® steel which will be used in the cutter decks for their latest model – the Stockman Series 4500 Rider Mower,” said Dennis.

According to Cox Mowers’ O’Sullivan, “BlueScope’s ZINCANNEAL® steel is set to provide a range of benefits such as not corroding or developing rust during the various stages of the manufacturing process, while also reducing preparation times for final powder coating.”

“We are also looking at using BlueScope’s ZINCANNEAL® steel as a replacement material in some of our other lines as well,” he said. “The most crucial part of the relationship between us and BlueScope Sheet Metal Supplies is the mutual appreciation and attention to quality, and the fact that they, just like Cox Mowers, provide an Australian-made product and have local back up whenever we need it.”

“Our two companies have had a great relationship for over a decade now, and the fact BlueScope Sheet Metal Supplies react very quickly to any issues and continue to supply the highest quality product and service means that we value them as our prime steel products supplier,” said O’Sullivan.
